Why Choose Crank Up Courage?

At Crank Up Courage, we help kids ride confidently and independently by uncovering and overcoming the invisible barriers holding them back. Our milestone-based system pinpoints what’s preventing progress and gives kids the tools to succeed. Whether it is fear, coordination, focus, or even a bike setup issue, we use proven techniques to build confidence and independence. This approach includes children with unique learning needs such as ADHD or ASD, who benefit from patience, adaptability, and tailored support that general instruction often lacks.

Why Learning to Ride Matters

In an era where scooters and screens dominate early childhood, many kids delay or avoid learning to ride altogether. This not only affects their physical confidence but also limits their ability to take part in school bike programs, community rides, and family adventures.Parents often want their kids to ride but can feel stuck when things do not go to plan. Sometimes no one can quite explain why progress is not happening. That’s where we help. By quickly uncovering what’s holding your child back, we make learning fun, safe, and fast. The sooner they master this skill, the sooner they can enjoy the freedom and confidence that comes with independent riding. For most kids, that happens in just a single lesson.

Lesson Structure

Our lessons are designed to build confidence step by step through a structured approach that turns hesitant riders into independent ones. All in just 60 minutes.First half – Learn to Glide (25 minutes)
🛈 Our milestone flow is structured, but flexible. Every child is different, and we follow their pace and cues to make sure confidence comes first.
All kids begin here. We don’t assume they know how to stay safe or balance yet, but if they can, they’ll progress quickly and feel even more confident.
Safety Star: Equipment and helmet checks, then learn how to stay safe when unbalanced.Handlebar Hero: Build the connection between leaning, steering, and braking.Balance Boss: Put balance into practice with a fun, game-based challenge!Break Time: Both levels are run back-to-back, with a 5-minute break in between.Second half – Learn to Ride (25 minutes)
Once the child has mastered gliding, they’re ready to learn to ride.
Pedal Pro: Learn how to use the pedals to propel the bike, keep momentum, and use the front & rear brakes together.Corner Cruiser: Develop confidence steering around obstacles and through turns.Ready to Roll: Ride independently with control, confidence, and a huge smile!Whether your child is taking their first glide or chasing that first full ride, our method makes the journey exciting, supportive, and full of little wins.

What parents are saying

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Going into the lesson I wasn’t sure my son would allow the training wheels to be taken off or get on his bike once they were, but he didn’t even hesitate. Graham was a fantastic instructor who gave Henry confidence to give it a go and he put up with 5yo antics. Once he was riding they played games and talked about safety. So glad I did the lesson as the power of someone else doing it with him rather than mum was so important. Now I can’t wait to take him for a bike ride."
Amanda - 1/12/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "6 steps in 60 minutes. Money well spent on watching my child achieve a huge milestone and courage and confidence to continue her bike riding journey. Graham was incredibly kind, nurturing and patient, just like any Parent should be, except he was able to do this while teaching Quinn to ride a bike, which is where I fall short. The steps were nicely paced, the whole session was appropriately timed, and the structure flowed well enough that Quinn was achieving her first solo pedals after just 35 minutes! I couldn't fault the lesson, Graham is unique in what he does, and I recommend this nurturing and compartmentalised approach to initiating a young bike riding journey."
Belinda - 22/11/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Graham was just amazing, really patient and kind - Lulu felt comfortable and was riding by the end of the lesson. Highly recommend!"
Sacha - 25/10/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Wow! Graeme, thank you so much for giving our little girl the confidence to finally shed her training wheels. I can not recommend this program more! Graeme had such a wonderful manner with our daughter and to see her riding around independently after one session was amazing!"
Suzie - 22/10/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "After struggling to learn at home for so long Graham had our son riding independently in the first 10 minutes. It was amazing to watch! He was able to establish rapport quickly and give our son the motivation and confidence to persevere through the wobbles. He has developed a great step-by-step program and we could see he is passionate about and has a talent for helping kids learn to ride."
Brooke - 24/09/2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Our little man really enjoyed his session with Graham. The program is wonderful, from the small group environment, to quality of the skills and positive reinforcement given along the way.We would highly recommend Crank up Courage to any families looking to support their children riding a bike without training wheels. With a maximum of 3 in a class, children receive timely and appropriate feedback and guidance. The positive reinforcement and reward system had our boy engaged and conquering each skill along the way. By the end of the session he was able to ride by himself. We look forward to continuing his bike-riding journey at home.
Thankyou Graham."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "My daughter had just started to ride without training wheels before her lesson with Graham. Despite passing through quickly, it was a valuable experience and the confidence gained has made a huge difference to her riding. I was blown away with the improvement in her riding after one lesson. I was impressed with the impromptu braking safely from a fast pace activity that you put together for us. A few extra skills and a LOT more confidence! Thank you Crank Up Courage!"
Kate - 28/06/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "An excellent service! I did not expect Asha to give it a go as she was so scared to lose her training wheels, ( it took a while to get her to go). Once we were there Graham took over and she was up and riding in no time! Graham was so good with her, I was so impressed! Asha said she was so brave! A testament to how much confidence she gained in one lesson! And she loved the courage lolly! Asha earned 4 stars out of 6. It accurately reflected her progress and she’s looking forward to gaining the last 2 stars!"
Brandon - 28/06/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "We recently did Graham’s Learn to Ride program with our 3-year-old, and I honestly can’t recommend it enough. Before the lesson, Darcy was confident on training wheels but completely unsure of himself without them. Within just one session, Graham had him riding on his own – even starting off by himself without needing a push!Darcy took a little while to warm up (he can be a bit of work sometimes), but Graham was so patient and clearly knew how to connect with him. He had a few clever tricks up his sleeve and just made the whole experience so positive.Watching Darcy ride off with a big smile on his face was one of those proud parenting moments I’ll never forget. So glad we did it – thank you, Graham!"
Elly - 23/06/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Graham has created a fantastic program, Cranked Up Courage. Our 8yo son was struggling with having the confidence of taking that final leap of riding his bike with no training wheels and having to have someone to run along with him. Graham had him riding all by himself within 10mins. This program is truly amazing and highly recommended to give your children that confidence that will see them riding for the rest of their days!"
Leith - 22/06/2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Graham was incredibly patient and calm while teaching our daughter to ride a bike.
She had moments of hesitation, but Graham continued to encourage her and praise her efforts. By the end of the session, she was riding confidently and beaming with pride.
Graham explained each step clearly and gave her the space to build confidence at her own pace. What a fantastic program—thank you, Graham!"

FAQs

Q - Do I need to remove training wheels?
A - Yes, please remove them before the lesson, or arrive 10 minutes early so we can help.
Q - Can I bring my child's balance bike to the lesson?
A - Balance bikes restrict how much your child can progress so this not recommended. We would like to focus on getting your little rider pedaling.
Q - What do I need to bring to a lesson?
A - A bike with working brakes.
- Helmet compliant to Australian Standards that fits snuggly.
- Closed-toe shoes, no loose clothing.
- Knee and elbow pads if it helps kids feel safer.
- A water bottle and snacks for the break (kids can get HANGRY!)
- Also, parents will need to stay during the lesson, you don't want to miss any special moments!
Q - Is this suitable for kids that learn differently?
A - Yes! Our structure and step-by-step learning is perfect for kids who need patience, routine, and encouragement.
Q - What if my child refuses to participate?
A - We follow their cues and gently re-engage. There is no pressure. In group settings, we can continue with the other kids while they watch all the fun, and they generally want to join in willingly. But if they choose not to engage, we respect their wishes. No need to increase any anxiety levels. They will join in when they're ready. If you believe this may happen, we recommend arriving 15 minutes early so they can get their wiggles out on the nearby playground so they can start to get comfortable in the area, and start to see that we're all about having fun.
Q - Where do I park?
A - The specific coordinates are placed in the booking page that will take you to the parking area circled in green below.

About the Founder and his Family

As a parent of two children with learning difficulties who both learned to ride confidently before turning 5, I bring empathy, patience, and lived experience to every Crank Up Courage session. I know firsthand how powerful small wins can be, not just for kids, but for families too.My love for riding started early, as a kid, bikes meant freedom, adventure, and fun. My cousin even reminded me that I taught her how to ride when we were kids! But it wasn’t until years later, when I helped a close friend’s daughter learn to ride alongside my own kids, that the passion truly came flooding back. I realised how transformational the experience could be and how much joy and confidence it unlocks when done right. That moment planted the seed for Crank Up Courage, a program built not only on personal experience but also on a deep commitment to continuous improvement. Every tool, milestone, and technique has been shaped by real kids, real challenges, and real breakthroughs. Each session is a chance to refine, adapt, and improve, for the benefit of every learner. My goal is simple: to help kids feel proud of what they can do, and excited for what they’re about to learn next, one wobble, one win at a time.Meet my biggest supporters, my amazing wife and our two adventurous daughters. Just a little further down, you’ll see both girls riding confidently on two wheels, no training wheels, no limits.
